Optimizing a Nonprofit Donation Experience for Higher Conversions

Redesigned the Spark Leaders donation experience to improve clarity, reduce complexity and errors, and create a more intuitive user flow that encourages engagement and completion.

Project Overview

This project focused on improving the donation experience for Spark Leaders by simplifying the giving experience.

The goal was to create a smoother experience and anticipate user behavior for completing the donation process on both, desktop and mobile versions.

The Problem

Many nonprofit donation experiences struggle with clarity, usability, and user trust, which can lead to lower completion rates. The goal was to address common challenges that can prevent users from completing their donation, such as:

Complex and overwhelming donation flows

Unclear messaging around impact

Lack of visual hierarchy and guidance

Poor mobile optimization

The Goal

To help users move through the experience more efficiently, a clear visual hierarchy guides them toward key actions such as selecting donation amounts and enables them to complete their donations with confidence.

Design Highlights

Updates to H1 to match the active filter (e.g. "Disability Rights").

This provides immediate visual confirmation of the search state. It eliminates guesswork and keeps the user oriented without them having to check the filter bar.

My Role

I worked as a UI/UX Designer responsible for:

Designing the donation experience and simplifying the interface, creating high-fidelity UI mockups, structuring layout and visual hierarchy, optimizing the experience for mobile users, and ensuring clarity, consistency, and usability.

Design Approach

The redesign improves efficiency and highlights how donations support Spark Leaders’ mission, helping users understand their impact while ensuring ease of use and readability. A fully responsive interface enhances usability across devices, while improved filters and clearer, more scannable tags make it easier to navigate, find relevant content, and improve overall organization.

The redesign improves the donation experience by making it more intuitive, accessible, and aligned with user expectations, helping Spark Leaders boost engagement and completion rates.
